Diffusion of Innovations
Kenzie Van Cleef
The Theory Defined A social science theory called diffusion theory explains how concepts, goods, or behaviors expand within a community or social structure. Or, to put it another way, it's about how invention spreads among people. When finding out more information on this topic people often use social media apps such as tik tok, instagram, facebook, and more.
According to Roger's view, adoption can be divided into five major categories. Pioneers, early adopters, the early majority, the late majority, and others are all included in this. In 1926 was the first time a television was demonstrated out into the public. The whole idea behind Rogers diffusion of inventions is that he is trying to explain why certain technologies take off and why others don't which is why there are five major categories.
The idea of dissemination of innovations spikes interest in me so much because it genuinely makes you ask yourself, "Why am I doing this?" or why this is used by people? One social media platform that Iv'e always wondered was why did Musically change to Tik Tok. Other then a few updates orignally the app went from singing to songs and uploading them on your media page now it's more dancing and trends and i'm curious as too why is it so different now. Meanwhile over time you start to realize how much each generation has improved. This app was made specifically so people can be entertained while posting things that they enjoy or want others to see. The good thing however about the app is that it is up to you weather you care or not about having random people see your content otherwise you can go private and select the friends you want.
Back then my parents and some family members had a different generation then us now which means no snapchat, Tik Tok, instagram and more. One thing that I typically see parents use is facebook often. Especially my mom. It was a way to keep in touch and reach out or spread important news. Not only facebook but email was another app that they used often to stay in touch with friends. For example, I asked my mom to text me a picture one time and she had accidentally emailed it to me because it was what she is used too.
Television not only just changed but it affected the way people learned, knew what was going on around them, and were entertained. It also impacted the social impact, news influence, and education. It played a role on the social impact because it allowed people to gather together and watch shows and bond. It had also reinforced gender roles and stereotypes. Political and news influence was another one because back then people would have to wait till the news paper was dropped off in your driveway and nowadays you can just watch it on tv. It also allowed people to watch what they want and what looks most interesting to them. Lastly, it impacted education because it was designed to teach children basic academic concepts, while adult programming introduced a wide range of topics such as science, history, and culture and things more interesting to them.
