The Age of AI

Kenzie Van Cleef

Negative Effects of Ai

AI has brought many benefits, but it also shows the challenges and negative impacts on society and individuals. For an example of things that Ai has a negative impact on would be, ethical concerns, job displacement and economic inequality, and bias and discrimination. Ethical concerns are one example of a negative impact because it often used and have misinformation meaning like not correct or made up just to provide an answer which questions people weather things are accurate or wrong when it comes to social media posts. I believe job displacement and economic inequality also play a big role regarding this topic. The reason I say this is because it can lead to unemployment in such industries like manufactoring, retailing, and logistics. Because of Ai work places and employees may lack the skills needed for increasing economic inequality. Lastly, bias and discrimination is another one because AI systems have the potential to increase or reinforce preexisting biases in their training data, which could result in unfair hiring, lending, law enforcement, and healthcare outcomes. Not only that but theres lack of accountability meaning it's frequently difficult to figure out who is at fault when biased decisions are made—developers, users, or the system itself. All three of those examples and descriptions all show negative ways that have to do with the whole idea behind the Ai.

                       Benefits of Ai

Even though there is not as much benefits as the negatives of the use behind Ai doesn't mean there isn't any positives to it. Things that are positive include transportation, education, and accessibility. I think transportation is a positive outlook on Ai because of the idea of self-driving cars, drones and others. Ai also optimizes traffic flow and helps delivery companies find the fastest and easiest route. Education is another positive thing because it helps with certain content to suit individual student needs, learning speeds, and styles. It also helps teachers / professors create a much easier grading process. The last one is accessibility. I think this is a benefit as well because it can create a lot of things like personalized playlists, social media feeds, and movie suggestions. As much as it's not too accurate it still provides and assists artists, writers and musicians in making their work better and more enhanced. All three of those examples and descriptions all show positive ways and benefits that have to do with the whole idea behind the Ai.

Although I don't actively make use of AI on an ongoing basis, I can see why it might be appealing. Technology is the foundation of the United States. AI's main objective is to develop technologies and systems that can replicate and imitate human intelligence in order to carry out events in a bright and efficient, and independent way. People often say its creepy but very helpful when it comes to writing papers, doing homework, and more. Therefore, even some professors encourage students to use it and some are completely against it. Everyone has their different opinions of Ai and how it is properly used. Ai was first founded in 1956 however has not been this intense up until recently. Lately scrolling through tik tok or any social media platform you see posts of Ai's generating made up things to say while using a different person which have made people think is this good or really bad.
